What a thrill to call all 4 games of US Soccer’s SheBelieves Cup. An initiative by US Soccer to inspire and encourage women and young girls.
Each game had its own drama from Japan scoring in the first 30 seconds vs the USWNT! The US found a way to win that game thanks to Jaedyn Shaw and yet another PK conversion from Captain Horan in the 77′. Japan is so fun to watch. Their commitment to movement and passing is poetry in motion. Canada and Brazil played a close game, 1-1, with Canada advancing on PK’s. Three of four total games had PK’s! The nearly 50k crowd in Atlanta on Saturday was the largest outside a WC/Olympics. The explosion of women’s sports continues and I am here for it.
A personal pinch me moment when I saw Marta and Cristiane rostered! Both played well and I hope Marta makes the Olympic roster.
The SBC final saw a repeat of USA v Canada from the W Gold Cup 36 days prior. We will all remember the rain soaked conditions but that game was epic ending in the US winning on PK’s. And, of course, wouldn’t you know it…..another game ending in PK’s. More FUN! Alyssa Naeher wears a cape and somehow managed to repeat her incredible performance from the “Naeher’s Ark” game where she saved 3 PK’s and converted her own!
It has been an honor and a privilege to call every USWNT game in 2024. Thank you, God!
